Traffic Advisory given by Greater Chennai Police

Greater Chennai: To ease the traffic congestion on Harrington road, a one-way system was introduced in the year 2016. Except on Sundays and other holidays from morning 8.30 AM to 10.30 AM and from 6 PM to 8 PM, a one-way system was implemented. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the traffic was reverted into two ways from 26.03.2020. Now as the lockdown period has been relaxed and almost all the Commercial establishments, Education Institutions, Government/Private organizations have started functioning in normal mode. The width of the Harrington Road subway is 6mtrs, which is inadequate to cope with the traffic in the peak hours. Motorists on EVR Salai towards Chetpet via Harrington subway have to cover only 1.8kms thereby avoiding 4 major junctions and traveling time is less than 20 minutes. As a result, the volume of traffic is very high during peak hours on Harrington road. To ease the congestion, the following traffic arrangements will be implemented from 11.10.2021 onwards.

Vehicles will not be allowed to reach EVR Salai from Chetpet Junction through Harrington Subway from 08.30 AM to 10.30 AM. The motorists to reach EVR Salai via Mc., Nicholas road, Dr. Gurusamy Bridge, and Egajunction or their destination.

Vehicles coming from EVR Salai will not be allowed to reach Chetpet junction via Harrington subway from 6 PM to 8 PM. Instead of that, those vehicles are allowed via Ega junction, Right turn towards Dr. Gurusamy Bridge, Chetpet junction to reach their destination.

The residents of Harrington road are allowed to take a “U” turn at Harrington road subway to reach their destination. Stakeholders’ suggestions will be invited. Motorists are requested to co-operate.
