Salem: 200 closed circuit surveillance cameras (CCTVs) at 56 intersections in the city are being installed by the police and the work is expected to be completed soon. According to police, during the collectors conference held at Salem in 2012 Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had sanctioned 200 CCTVs at a total cost of Rs. 3, 51, 38,000. Tenders were floated and the contractor was handed over the work order to supply, install and maintain the cameras. A total of 192 HD cameras, eight pan-tilt- zoom cameras (PTZ), all networked with individual uninterrupted power back up systems (UPS) and connected to nine control rooms would be installed at various places in the city. The cameras have clear night vision facility. The eight PTZ cameras will be installed in areas like Old Bus Stand, Seelanaickenpatti, Kondalampatti, Hasthampatti Junction, Five Road Junction, Railway Junction and two cameras will be installed at Dr. MGR Central Bus Stand, police said. 115 pillars will be erected and all the 200 cameras would be installed at 56 intersections in the city. The CCTVs will help in monitoring traffic besides monitoring the movement of criminals and also prevent crime, officials said.]]>
