On the web, 15,568 online complaints have been made so far this year. The police department is trying to make the website more people-friendly such that citizens visiting it can locate relevant sections with ease. The techies who work temporary staff are hired to maintain National Informatics Centre (NIC) website, but these techies leave their jobs abruptly, often keeping pending problems unresolved and due to this the user interface takes a hit. A Police officer at SCRB said, “We are planning to take over the maintenance and give it to a team of techies from within the department.” At present there are eight police personnel in the ranks of Inspector, Sub-Inspector and other ranks who have degrees in software engineering and are being trained to solve minor glitches. These Policemen work out of the SCRB office and feed inputs to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), a project of the Central government that aims to link more than 14,000 police stations across the country and build an online tracking system, the Police officer said.  ]]>
