Slovenian woman robbed, Police arrest five

CHENNAI: Five youngsters waylaid a foreign woman tourist and robbed her on December 27 at Mamallapuram a few days ago were arrested by the Police on Wednesday. Ksenija Murali from Slovenia was attacked by a group of men when she was walking alone at the beach in Mamallapuram. Her containing 1,400 Euros, 250 US dollars and Rs 1,000, a mobile phone and two credit cards were snatched by robbers. Philip Kumar (22), Ajith Kumar (20), Deepak Kumar (18), Mani alias Sivakumar (21) and Vijayakumar (21), all hailing from Poonjeri near Mamallapuram were arrested by Police. Most of the accused were school dropouts and were involved in several such crimes in the past, police said. The Police recovered 1,050 Euros, 250 US Dollars, passport, mobile phone and credit cards belonging to the woman. The youth had exchanged about 100 Euros and spent it, they said. The youngsters were wary of exchanging the foreign currency for the fear of getting caught, police added.  ]]>
