MADURAI: One of Tamil Nadu’s Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police (ADSP) in spite of his strenuous work has saved a dying water body in the district of Ramanathapuram. After this the ADSP Mr. Inbamani had become the talk of town and his department in the district with fellow policemen heaping praise on him. The drought had been intense for the past two years and there had been very scanty rainfall in Ramanathapuram district, as it is one of the dry districts in the state. The Central drought assessment team during its recent inspection also confirmed that there was 100 crop failure in the district. What the ADSP Inbamani did was he initiated the desilting of a water body that was an empty land which was previously a water body on a land behind the Armed Reserve Police quarters near the Ramanathapuram Collectorate. Apart from many other ideas that Inbamani had to save water bodies in view of the acute drought, the main thing was to convert the place into a rainwater harvest point for which he also obtained permission from Ramanathapuram SP Mr. Manivannan. First Mr. Inbamani contributed from his pocket and then a donor from Hyderabad supported the mission. The area of the land chosen was 75,000 sqft and initially seemai karuvelam and other unnecessary plants were removed from the site. Then the land was dug up using an earthmover. Following this the excavation reached 15 feet, water gushed out from the land. ‘I come from a hailed from an agricultural family in Salem district and wherever I go I initiate farm-related activities and in Ramanathapuram district too the eco drive continued as there was severe drought in an effort to create a water harvesting point for cops’, ADSP Mr. Inbamani told Policenewsplus.                ]]>
