Police raid bank officials houses regarding employee’s death

KOLKATA: Police in Kolkata raided two houses of bank officials belonging to  the Uluberia branch of a bank in connection with the suicide of bank employee Rajat Chowdhury, but could not recover anything. Police said , branch manager and head cashier were named in the FIR related to the death. The two  officials were summoned to Uluberia Police station yesterday but they did not turn up. The duo stayed away from office today, Police said. “May be they are trying to evade arrest and their cell phones were switched off when, Police said. The two may apply for anticipatory bail, a source said. According to Police Mr. Chowdhury, a 48-year-old banking correspondent, was found dead on a railway track on Friday night. Police say Chowdhary’s family allege that, businessman Somnath Ghosh,  whose legal tender Chowdhury had allegedly swapped with  demonetised currency, and the two bank officials had driven him to suicide. Amit Nayek, an  associate of Ghosh, is another accused, Police added. CCTV footage sent by the bank to Police on Tuesday was examined and the recording only covered two days February 9 and 10. Police said, “The footage contained only the entry-exit point and contained nothing of what happened inside the bank”.
