Police in Chennai arrest two for three chain snatchings in four hours

CHENNAI: Police arrested two Youth who were in their 20s allegedly went on a robbing spree on Chennai’s streets and snatched gold chains from three women who were walking on the streets. The youths were arrested on Friday. Police began the probe after three chain snatching incidents were reported in and around Virugambakkam on March 2, according to the Police. Police with the help of CCTV footage from the locality traced the two youths K Basha (22) and Saravanan (24) from Vysarapadi. Om March 2 the youths went on a robbery spree after stealing a motorbike parked in front of a house in Chinmaya Nagar, Police said. “After the incident the two went to Virugambakkam and snatched a gold chain from one Manimegalai (48) who was walking home in Venkestwara Nagar around 3 pm. Police said, The youths then reached the main road, and after 10 minutes, they robbed the gold chain from one Kala (55), and ran away from the spot even as a few locals tried to catch them”. Police say, after four hours they went to Vadapalani and snatched another chain from a woman Divya (24), a software employee, all these three incidents were recorded on CCTV. According to Police, a total of 51 sovereigns of gold jewellery were recovered from them. Saravanan and Baasha became friends after they met at a TASMAC shop, a Police officer probing the case said.  ]]>
