NEW DELHI: Jat protests threaten to bring New Delhi on its knees, but thousands of Policemen were deployed to deal with the situation. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in parts of the national capital as Jats from Haryana and neighbouring states have planned to march to Parliament today demanding reservation. Road traffic and Metro has been curtailed as a precaution. Heavy Police force has been deployed as a similar agitation by the Jats had resulted in large-scale violence in Haryana in February last year in which 30 people dead and more than 300 people injured. Jat protestors clashed with Police in Fatehabad, 200 km from New Delhi when they were moving towards Delhi. Four Policemen including a Deputy Superintendent of Police were injured. With the Jats warning this time that the protests would be largescale the Centre had directed governments in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to invoke CrPC 144. 247 companies (about 24,700 personnel) of paramilitary forces have been deployed in Delhi. Leaves of its personnel in Delhi Police have been cancelled till further orders and imposed prohibitory orders and several traffic restrictions have been made. The agitation spearheaded by the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangarsh Samiti (AIJASS) has given a call to hold dharnas on Delhi border and block all highways to press for its demands.      ]]>
