Delhi Police takes policing to new level, launches ‘Praharis’, scheme to prevent crime

NEW DELHI: Mr. Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Police, Delhi, inaugurated ‘Praharis’ a new scheme on April 7 by taking policing to greater levels in the national capital by roping in crucial private security guards to work under different areas. The top cop said while addressing a gathering of private security guards who took oath as “Praharis” during inauguration of the scheme in South East District, “The private security guards must pass on information about illegal activities in their circles and act as a tool to prevent crime and maintain law and order”. “With the help of private security guards and their cooperation policing can be taken to higher levels”, Mr. Patnaik said. Prahari, the Delhi Police will train private security guards in community policing scheme apart from having frequent interactions to help them act swiftly during emergency in order to prevent crime, the top cop said. The Police commissioner unveiled a personal diary meant for Praharis and advised them to use the diary to take notes and write down important contacts in the area. Mr. Patnaik said, “The Praharis can note down bike numbers of troublemakers and report it to Police later”. The employers of the guards who also took part in the event were advised to provide them with all necessities, the tough cop said. In outer districts of Delhi the scheme was unveiled one month ago, Delhi Police said. Around 1,700 security guards were appointed as Delhi Police Prahari on the occasion.  ]]>
