Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday approved ₹.1 crore compensation for the family of a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector who was killed in a shootout last week. Mr. Kejriwal met the family of ASI Vijay Yadav, who was shot dead on Sunday while on duty in outer Delhi. The ASI, who had been assigned to provide security to a man who had received death threats, had been caught in the middle of a suspected gang-war. On Thursday, Mr. Kejriwal met the ASI’s family, including his parents and son, and approved a sum of ₹.1 crore to be given to them as compensation. This is as per a policy the government to give ₹.1 crore to the families of martyrs. The ASI’s son, 18-year-old Chandresh Yadav, said: “All we wanted was that my father should be given the status of shaheed because he lost his life while on duty, and the government has done that. We appreciate what the Delhi government has done for us.”
