statement of one of the victims of the government-funded shelter home rape case in Muzaffarpur where 21 women were allegedly trapped and raped, a girl was beaten to death and buried in the premises when she disagreed with the staff members. The Bihar Police have dug up the grounds in search for the girl’s body. Mr. Harpreet Kaur, Senior Superintendent of Police said that nothing had been found so far at the shelter home premises where digging is underway. He added that police is working independently and are conducting a thorough investigation. Mr. Kaur also said that once the body is found, additional charges may be framed against those who are already detained in connection with the activities at the shelter home. The report of a Mumbai-based social science institute which had conducted an audit of the state-funded establishment run by an NGO exposed the sexual exploitation of the inmates at the shelter home a month ago. Following reports of sexual exploitation, the shelter home has been sealed for over a month. During the recording of statements under Section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code, this intense matter came into light. All the inmates have been moved to other districts and more than 10 people, including all staff members of the shelter home and some government officials, have so far been arrested in this regard.]]>
