A nine-year-old boy whose head was severed was recovered from a riverbed in Bolangir district. Odisha Police have claimed to solve the case.
According to the police, the victim, was murdered by his brother and uncle in order to please goddess Durga for the fulfilling their wishes. They started the investigation suspecting it to be a case of human sacrifice. Titlagarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Saroj Mohapatra told reporters. That during the interrogation, one of the two accused confessed to the crime.
The incident took place on October 13 at Sundhimunda village which comes under the jurisdiction of Sindehekela police station in Bolangir district.
Superstition and black magic are not new to this part of the country. A similar incident was reported from the region during the Durga Puja celebrations last year (2017).
