“THOZHI” A WOMEN WELFARE ORGANIZATION OF GREATER CHENNAI POLICE

Chennai : The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act ( Act No. 32 of 2012) envisages and empowers the Police personnel especially Women Police personnel to render various types of counseling to the victims of POCSO Act cases immediately after the registration of cases.

As a part of the expansion and easy outreach to the victims in POCSO Act cases, it has been proposed to launch a Novel Scheme in the name of “Thozhi “ by earmarking two Women Police personnel from 35 All Women Police stations totaling 70 Women Police personnel in Greater Chennai Police to render psycho-social, psychiatric counseling and all possible assistances to the victims of POCSO Act cases.

This is an innovative initiative of the Addl. Commissioner of Police, Law and Order (North). The earmarked Police personnel will be provided with Pink Saree embedded with Nirbaya Logo as a mark of safety.

The earmarked Thozhi scheme police personnel in each AWPS Police station in Greater Chennai Police will visit the house of victims of POCSO Act and Rape cases periodically to render counseling and other legal assistance including providing safety and security arrangements if they apprehend fear from the offender side. This will be pursued till from the registration to conclusion of case trial in the court.

Today i.e, on 08.11.2019 the Thozhi scheme is unveiled by Dr. A.K.Viswanathan, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police delivered special address and distributed Nirbaya Logo to the earmarked Women Police personnel. Dr. R. Dhinakararan, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, North welcomed the gathering, JCOP(West) Tmt. Vijayakumari, IPS, DCP (Crime against Women and Children), All Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police, (Crime against Women and Children), All Inspector of Police in AWPS and other police personnel participated in the event.

Dr. Shalini, a psychiatrist, Dr. Andrew Sesuraj, Professor of Loyola College, spoke in their respective field. Tmt.H. Jayalakshmi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (Crime against Women and Children) delivered vote of Thanks.
