Students throw stones at Telangana Police in students’ riot

HYDERABAD: On Saturday night a group of intermediate second year students who were prevented from leaving hostel premises a day before their exam allegedly went on a rampage and pelted stones at Police and also set fire to college furniture and damaged a bus, Police said. Bachupally Police said the incident took place at a corporate junior college Bachupally Police limits. A home guard and the college principal were injured when students allegedly attacked them. 25 students attempted to leave the campus at around 10.15 pm on Saturday, according to police. The college principal saw them arguing with the watchman and intervened. After a heated argument the students allegedly assaulted him, Police said. When the hostel staff tried to stop the students, the students pelted stones on them after which the staff alerted the Bachupally Police. The students had damaged fans, broke windows and damaged the water filter in the kitchen. Police said, after hearing the Police siren the students turned off the main power supply, burnt blankets in an open space and pelted stones at the Police personnel. The students came to the main road and hurled stones at an RTC bus that was heading to Miyapur said Mr. Balakrishna Reddy, Inspector of Police, Bachupally police. The students damaged the windows of the bus in which about 16 persons, including driver. Mohammed Riyaz, a Home guard who was injured in the incident was rushed to the hospital. Balakrishna Reddy said the situation was brought under control after additional forces were brought in. The Police inspector said, “The students involved in the rioting have been identified. They were allowed to write the exam on Sunday. The parents of the students will called and they will be produced before the JJ Board. Sections 324, 147, 149 under sections of IPC and PDPP Act”.]]>
