AGRA: Aligarh police seized 1200 litres of diesel along with two oil tankers which were ferrying fuel from Mathura refinery to Bareilly, Meerut and Pilibhit districts. The incident took place at Sathini village of Iglas police jurisdiction on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. According to police, the local resident of Sathini in collusion with oil mafia active in Mathura was pilfering oil from tankers which were en route for other districts. Arvind Kumar Rathi, station officer Iglas, said, "An input was shared by local supply inspector about a godown where oil mafia men were storing oil after stealing from the tankers." "We have arrested the local kingpin and the owner of godown, Sonu, along with a driver of tanker from which oil was pilfered. The other driver managed to flee away," he said. By the time this report was filed, police were yet to receive order from the district magistrate to file an FIR against the accused under the Essential Commodity Act. According to police, apart from two oil-filled tankers, cops seized six 200-litre drums filled with oil, two empty drums, six 20-litre canisters, electronic pump to extract oil from tanker and a pipe. Police source claimed, Sonu used to steal oil from the tankers and paid a hefty amount to drivers and oil mafia. He was mixing kerosene in the tanker to compensate the stolen fuel. His godown at Sathini village is between Mathura-Aligarh highway, hence it was an easy job for him to pilfer the oil which was being sent to other districts. After several complaints from fuel station owners about the low-quality oil, the administration zeroed in on the pilferage center and nabbed Sonu.
