In the past two days, City Police Commissioner Mr. A.K. Viswanathan had launched a series of welfare measures to police personnel, including commissioning of a canteen. Inaugurating a canteen in the campus of Armed Force in Pudupet, Mr. Viswanathan told that, here police personnel can buy things at 20% cheaper rates than in the open market from automobiles to grocery items. The families of serving, retired and deceased police personnel, prison staff, personnel of Fire and Rescue services are eligible to benefit from the facilities in the canteens. Soon, a similar canteen will be opened at Kondithoppu as well. According to a senior police official there are limits fixed on the purchase depending upon the ranks. This will be largely useful for all sections of the force. The beneficiaries have been issued with smart cards to buy things here. On the day of deepavali, Mr. Viswanathan distributed sweets to police personnel who were on duty at the Commissioner’s Office. “It was motivating to police personnel who were on duty on the day of festival their families in the homes. It will encourage staff to discharge their duties duly,” a senior officer said. Last week, nilavembu kudineer was distributed to police personnel.
