The police said on Wednesday that an international drug racket has been busted and around 5 kg high-grade heroin worth ₹21 crore in the international market was seized. The kingpin of the gang has been identified as Chigemezu alias Obiji, a 27-year-old Nigerian citizen who currently resides in Uttam Nagar. Two other gang members have been idenified as Deepak Goel (28) and Harinder Pal (21). As soon as The Special Cell received a clue on Sunday that Goel and Pal would travel from Rohini towards Singhu Border via Mukarba Chowk around 6 p.m. in a sedan to deliver consignments of heroin to drug dealers, a team was activated and a trap was laid. The accused’s car was spotted, with two persons inside when the police started checking vehicles by sealing Mukarba Chowk at around 6.30 p.m. The driver tried to escape by taking a U-turn, but in vain while he was signalled to stop the car. Those inside the car also tried to flee finding themselves surrounded by the police, but were arrested. 4.5 kg heroin was seized from them after they were searched. Goel said that he had met Obiji in Patiala jail around two years ago where both were lodged in separate narcotic drug cases. When both were out of the jail, Goel contacted Obiji and started procuring heroin from him. Goel was involved in drug supply for more than five years and Pal who usually acted as a carrier was involved in drug supply for more than two years. Goel and Pal revealed during interrogation that they used to source heroin from Obiji, their Nigerian accomplice and further supplied the drugs to dealers in Haryana and Punjab. DCP (Special Cell) P.S. Khushwah said that both had procured more than 80 kg heroin and supplied the same to various drug peddlers in north India. Acccording to Goel’s statement, raids were conducted in various parts of Uttam Nagar, and Obiji was arrested with 750 gm of heroin on Monday.
