Achievement of the police in Thoothukudi

Thoothukudi: Tuticorin, known officially as Thoothukudi is a port city and a municipal corporation and an industrial city in Thoothukudi District in Tamil Nadu. The city is administered by Thoothukudi Municipal Corporation covering an area of 353.07Km. The population according to 2011 was 237,830. The urban population in 2011 was 410,760. There are approximately 16 police stations catering to the needs of the district.

The police of Thoothukudi District have taken a lot of efforts in maintaining the law and order and traffic regulations of the district. The efforts of the police personal have brought down the Homicides, cognizable offences and accidental deaths in the district during 2018.
With the extra effort on the part of the police they have been successfully been able to bring down the number of murder cases from 67 in 2017 to 59 in the 2018, the police said.
In the police stations in 2017, 822 cases related to cognizable offences were registered, and a decrease has been witnessed in the number of cases in 2018, to 605. With the relentless efforts of the police personal around Rs. 1.3 crore worth property have been returned to the rightful owners.
As the traffic police personal conducted various traffic awareness activities the number of accidental deaths came down from 370 to 287 compared to the previous year.
The police have further identified 41 persons as anti-social elements and have been registered cases against them under the Goondas and National Security Acts. With the security of the police personal a number of festivals have been organised peacefully over the year, said a press release.
