Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: In a major step towards strengthening infrastructure and operational efficiency of the state police force, Pinarayi Vijayan flagged off 146 newly procured police vehicles at a ceremony held at the SAP Parade Ground.
The initiative is part of a phased plan to replace obsolete vehicles and enhance mobility for various police units across the state. The newly inducted fleet includes Mahindra Bolero, Scorpio and Thar vehicles; Force Gurkha and Traveller vehicles; and Hero X Pulse motorcycles. These vehicles will be deployed for police stations, control rooms, and highway patrol units.
Key allocations include:
- 44 Bolero vehicles to strengthen routine patrolling and law and order management.
- 40 Scorpio vehicles to enhance highway patrol operations.
- 15 Gurkha and 5 Thar vehicles to improve policing in challenging hilly terrains.
- 24 Hero X Pulse motorcycles to ensure efficient 24×7 patrolling and increased surveillance.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also presented the Best Police Station Awards for 2024.
- Muhamma Police Station secured first place.
- Kodungallur Police Station won second place.
- Bekal Police Station secured third place.
The ceremony was attended by State Police Chief Rawada Azad Chandra Shekhar and senior officers including ADGPs S. Sreejith (Police Headquarters), P. Vijayan (Intelligence), H. Venkatesh (Law and Order), and Dinendra Kashyap (Armed Battalion).
The induction of the new vehicles is expected to significantly improve response time, strengthen patrolling capabilities, and enhance overall law enforcement efficiency across the state.
