Telangana: Seventeen individuals from Telangana have been rescued from cyber slavery operations in Myanmar and Laos, according to the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB). These victims were lured abroad with promises of lucrative job opportunities but were later forced into cyber fraud activities.
This rescue is part of a larger operation where more than 500 Indians, including 24 from Telangana, were brought back from scam centers in Myanmar. An additional eight Telangana residents were rescued from similar exploitation in Laos. So far, the TGCSB has registered 23 FIRs and arrested 13 suspects involved in the trafficking network.
Investigations show that around 80% of the trafficked individuals were taken to Cambodia, while the rest were transported to Myanmar and Laos. The victims were targeted through social media or acquaintances and were offered appealing overseas job opportunities. They were subjected to virtual interviews where the recruiters concealed their identities.
After selection, victims were issued tickets to Bangkok, which does not require a visa for Indian nationals. From there, they were transported across borders to scam centers in Southeast Asia. Their phones were reset, passports seized, and they underwent intensive training to carry out cyber frauds. Those who resisted faced physical abuse.
The TGCSB has continued its crackdown on such human trafficking and cyber crime operations. Authorities have urged job seekers to verify foreign employment opportunities through legitimate channels and remain cautious of suspicious recruitment offers.
