Malkajgiri, Telangana: The Malkajgiri Traffic Police conducted special weekend drunk-and-drive enforcement checks, apprehending 223 offenders for driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to officials, the cases included 194 two-wheelers, 8 three-wheelers, and 21 four-wheelers, while no heavy vehicle violations were recorded. Offenders were categorized based on their Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels during the checks.
Police stated that 204 offenders recorded BAC levels between 36 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml, while 10 offenders registered BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and 9 offenders recorded levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
All offenders will be produced before the Hon’ble Court for further legal action. Officials reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence, and warned that if an intoxicated driver causes a fatal accident, a case will be [registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 Section 105 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder), which carries a maximum punishment of up to 10 years’ imprisonment along with a fine.
Meanwhile, police also reported that during the week from 08 March to 14 March 2026, a total of 238 drunk-driving cases were disposed of in court, with 8 offenders receiving both fine and jail sentence, 11 offenders receiving fine and social service, and 219 offenders being fined.
Traffic police have urged motorists to avoid driving after consuming alcohol and strictly follow road safety rules to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
