Vellore: The Virinchipuram police received a tip-off that the ration rice was being smuggled by mysterious persons in Poikai Motorur area of Abdullapuram next to Vellore. Accordingly, a team led by Sub-Inspectors Mr. Kumaran, Mr. Ravi, and Special Division Police Mr. Vijayakumar, raided the area. Then there was a building in a secluded place. A cargo auto was also standing near it. Suspicious, the police went near it. 2 people who were there then ran away when they saw the police. The police tried to catch them but failed. There were lots of packages in the cargo auto. When the police took it apart, it was found to contain ration rice.
Then there were many sacks of ration rice in the godown too. There were about 3 tons of ration rice in a total of 70 bags. The police confiscated the rice and the cargo auto. The confiscated ration rice was handed over to the Vellore Food Smuggling Unit police. They have registered a case and are looking for the absconding persons. According to the police, the miscreants go from house to house and buy ration rice at high prices. They collect it in bulk and smuggle it to Andhra state. Ration rice has been secretly stashed in Poigai Motor area. They said that they are investigating the owner of the place.
