CHENNAI: Four persons who had booked a car and tried to hijack and sell the car by killing the driver were arrested by an alert police patrol team at Injambakkam here on January 15. A Police patrol was on inspection at around 2.30 a.m when the team inspected a car and found four youngsters trying to strangulate the driver. Even as the three men tried to escape, the patrol team caught one of them, police said. Karthick booked a Fast Track call taxi to go to Besant Nagar from Kovalam. The call taxi deputed S. Muralikrishnan (53) to pick up the customers. The driver went to the spot and picked up the four persons and when they were on their way to Besant Nagar one of the passengers asked him to stop the vehicle near Bethel Nagar junction to pick up another person. Even as they were waiting, the three men in the car suddenly caught hold of the driver and tried to kill him. Then Ravi of police patrol team of Kannagi Nagar police station who was on duty saw the car door open and had gone to inspect it when Ravi found the accused attacking Muralikrishnan. The occupants of the car started to run after seeing police, but they were chased and arrested, police said. The accused, a college student and resident of Royapuram K. Mohammed Irfan, was taken to Neelankarai police station. The other three accused are Suhail Ahamed, Niroshan and Kalyan, investigations revealed. Police said that the four friends had planned to hijack a car and sell it in Andhra Pradesh to make quick money. Police have foiled a special team to arrest the absconding youths.]]>
