Bargarh: On Wednesday, a crackdown against betting rackets in Bargarh district of Odisha resulted in the arrest of 47 individuals who were involved in gambling in various parts of the district. According to sources, special teams were formed to carry out simultaneous raids across the district following an instruction from Superintendent of Police Prahlad Meena.
During the operation, the police seized over Rs.94,000 in cash, 40 gambling charts, 52 betting chits, 20 mobile phones, five calculators, and 28 ‘satta’ books. The accused were booked under relevant sections of the law and presented before the court.
Among the police stations, Bargarh Town registered the highest number of cases at 8, followed by Attabira police station with 6 cases, Sadar, Rural, and Barpali police stations with 5, Paikamal and Bijepur police stations with 2 each, and Jharbandh, Padampur, Bhatli, and Melchamunda police stations with 1 case each.
The crackdown against gambling dens operating in the district is a significant step towards curbing illegal gambling and associated activities in the region. The police’s swift action sends a strong message to the organizers and participants of such illegal activities and reinforces the importance of following the law.
