New Delhi: Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi will address the four days 90th Interpol General Assembly today at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Hon’ble Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah will be the chief guest in the concluding session.
The 90th General Assembly of Interpol will be held from 18th to 21st of this month. The General Assembly is the international policing organization’s top governing body and meets once a year to take key decisions. The meeting will be attended by around 2,000 overseas dignitaries and delegations from 195 Interpol member countries comprising of ministers, police chiefs of countries, Senior Police Officers, heads of National Central Bureaus, apart from Interpol head office representatives and media representatives.
The General Assembly is Interpol’s supreme governing body and meets once a year to take key decisions related to its functioning. The event provides an opportunity to showcase the best practices of India’s law and order system to the entire world.
Interpol Chief Mr. Jurgen Stock today said the increase in violence in real and virtual world causes social and economic impact on governments and businesses. Mr. Stock said organized crime networks are making billions of dollars. Interacting with media in New Delhi on the eve of Interpol’s 90th General Assembly meeting Mr. Stock said the greater concern is that 99 percent of stolen assets remain in criminal hands.
He said Interpol’s international child sexual exploitation database has identified an average of seven child abuse victims every day. So far, 30,000 victims have been identified. Mr. Stock called for increasing the fight in protecting the most vulnerable segment in world.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Interpol President Mr. Ahmed Naser Al Raisi, Secretary General Mr. Jurgen Stock, and CBI Director will also be present on the occasion.
The General Assembly is taking place in India after 25 years, it was last held in 1997, as part of country’s 75th Independence Day celebrations
