Rameswaram: Rameswaram District Collector Dr. S Natarajan and Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan inspected on July 26 the arrangements being made for the foundation stone laying ceremony of ‘Dr APJ Abdul Kalam National Memorial’ on July 27. A source said that, the foundation stone laying will be held at the burial site of the former President on the occasion of his first death anniversary at Pei Karumbu near here. A seven foot tall bronze statue for installation at the site was transported by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence (MoD). The DRDO, which was building the memorial, has made ready a five-foot-tall pedestal at the entrance of the burial site and is giving finishing touches for the installation of the statue. The statue was kept in a box and the police have posted armed guards near the pedestal and the statue. The foundation stone for the memorial would be laid by Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in the presence of Union Ministers Pon. Radhakrishnan and Subhash Ramrao Bhamre, State Ministers Nilofer Kafeel and M. Manikandan and local MP A. Anwar Raja, according to official invitation.]]>
