Bengaluru: Nine accused who targeted an elderly women at a busy street and fled away with her gold chains were arrested by the Yeswanthpura police. Gold ornaments worth Rs 1.8 lakh were seized from the chain snatchers. The accused have been identified as Venkatesh, Durgappa, Sheshamma, Sushilamma, Nagamma, Anjinappa, Shyamanna, Thippesh and Nagaraj, all of them are residents of Chikkabennur village, Santhe Bennur taluk in Davangere. On 10th July, a 45 year old woman Gowramma, a resident of B K Nagar was returning back from vegetable market at around 10.30am. A woman aged around 40-45 years approached Gowramma saying that her daughter who is unmarried is pregnant has to be taken to the hospital, kindly direct the way. After taking directions the woman asked for money, but Gowramma told that she doesn’t have any money to help her. As she could not give her cash, the woman asked Gowramma her gold chain in exchange of150 gram which was costlier. After Gowramma gave her 49 gram gold chain to receive her costlier chain, a 35 year old man approached them and told that he will get the money by selling it. Meanwhile, before Gowramma could say anything, the man fled with the gold chain. Gowramma later came to know that it was fake gold chain that the old woman gave in exchange to her. The police have arrested the accused and remanded to judicial custody after receiving a complaint from Gowramma. The gang had earlier cheated another elderly woman 6 months ago and seized many gold chains, police found out.]]>
