<![CDATA[A police team arrested four thieves from New Delhi on 1 August for the Alwar break-in and had confessed to police that they were part of an international gang tasked that stole mobile phones and transported them to Delhi in ambulances. The arrested four were produced on 2 August in a local court that remanded them in police custody for five days. Gang leader Rahul, 23, stole mobile phones from Alwar, police said. So far they had confessed to have stolen phones of Rs 3 crore so far. Alwar’s Superintendent of Police Rahul Prakash, ‘’This was a gang of five. We have arrested four and one is absconding. They stole 240 phones. We have recovered 116 phones from them”. The SP added that the gang members had been living in Delhi for years, but frequently changed their rented accommodations so that court warrants don’t reach them. Ajay Kumar heads six gangs operating in India, police said. “He recruited members for burglaries and another set of people to (illegally) travel to Nepal, Myanmar, Bhutan and Tibet to sell the looted phones,” said Prakash. The gang had broken into mobile phone shops in cities such as Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore between 2am and 4am, said Additional superintendent of police Paras Jain who interrogated them. They stole only expensive phones, which cost more than Rs 15,000 and were mostly paid Rs 8-10,000 each depending upon the booty. They did recce of shops that they planned to break into and selected their target if they didn’t have CCTV cameras and sensors and if the shop owner didn’t carry expensive phones home when he closed the shop. A police team from Dausa reached Alwar on 1 August in connection with a burglary of Rs 15 lakh worth of phones in Bandikui on July 22. The criminals are also wanted in burglaries in Karnal, Jhajjar, Panipat and Gurgaon, police added. ]]>
