CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa allocated Rs 209.12 crore worth schemes and key allowances for Tamil Nadu police personnel from providing modern equipment to the personnel to improving infrastructural facilities for the department.
The Chief Minister replying to the discussion on the demands for grants for the Police and Fire and Rescue Services Departments in the Assembly yesterday Ms J Jayalalithaa said the risk allowance of police personnel and higher officials would be doubled hereafter. At present, this allowance ranges from Rs 200 to Rs 3,000.
This measure would cause an additional expenditure of Rs 60.73 crore to the State exchequer.
Hundred bullet-proof jackets, vehicle-mounted baggage scanner, X-Ray baggage scanners, explosive vapour detectors, mini-jammer, non-linear junction detectors, multi-zone door-frame metal detectors, night vision binoculars, minesweepers, bullet-proof helmets, debugging scanners, digital video cameras, digital mobile radio system and its accessories, digital mobile radio systems and its accessories, CCTVs with IP cameras and command, control, communication and intelligence (3ci) operation centre, portable, inflatable emergency lighting systems, Video Spectral Comparator – 8,000 with computer intel core i7, computer aided video super imposition device etc. are among the modern equipment to be offered to the police personnel.
Also, the uniform and equipment maintenance allowance would be hiked by Rs 100 per month. This would cause additional expenditure of Rs 14.50 crore. At present this allowance ranges from Rs 100 to Rs 450.
Allowances on a par with the Special Task Force would be given to the personnel of Naxal Special Duty Wing, those who are involved in curbing the activities of Maoists and naxalites. A sum of Rs 1.83 crore would be allocated for this purpose.
