AGARTALA: After the violence on 23 August the situation is fast returning to normalcy in Agartala. Assam Rifles, Border Security Force and Tripura State Rifles personnel are manning security in the city where Section 144 prohibitory order is enforced for three days. Thirty people were injured, dozens of vehicles put on fire and properties damaged during clashes between supporters of the IPFT and non-tribal city dwellers during Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) rally. The IPFT rally was held to push its demand for creation of a separate State for 33 per cent minority tribal population. West Tripura District Magistrate Milind Ramteke yesterday said the situation was under control and security arrangements were in place. In appeal to the media Mr Milind Ramteke said the media needs to refrain from publishing and broadcasting provocative news and photographs and support efforts of the administration to restore complete normalcy. ]]>
