Mannar: The notorious thief, who was recently released from jail, has given a headache to the police by committing robberies at various places in the central Travancore area which was about the beginning of a series of robberies. Biju Sebastian alias Biju, son of Cyrus, is 48 years old and a resident of Pothencode Jubilee House, Thiruvananthapuram.
The accused had smashed the crucifix of the Mannar Kuttamperur Muttel Church and had stolen Rs.20, 000 from the church. He had then been arrested by the police. After his release from jail, he had committed several thefts at Venmani, Chengannur, Aranmula, and Koipram police stations. Adoor police had arrested the accused Biju on a theft case being registered in the police station.
Biju, who was released from Thiruvananthapuram Central Jail on February 24 last year after being convicted in the station case, was seen wandering around Chengannur, Harippad, and Thiruvalla. For the past 30 years, there have been about 200 thefts in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Kottayam districts, and thefts in various places in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu has been conducted by the accused. The practice is to commit theft alone or in conjunction with other thieves known to him while he was in prison. Riding on stolen bikes and committing theft in isolated homes.
The practice of the accused is to sleep in isolated houses or in school buildings. If there was no facility to sleep, the accused would take long-distance buses and sleep during the journey before arriving for theft. Alappuzha District Police have arrested the accused Biju who was riding his bike in Chengannur after breaking the boat of Muttel Palli.
The arrest was made by the Chief’s Squad and a team led by the Mannar Inspector. The police team had been following the accused for the past few days. Chengannur DYSP Dr. Jose led the squad members and Mannar Inspector Mr. Numan, Sub Inspector Mr. Ilyas. Y., A.S.I. Mr. Santosh Kumar, Senior CPO Mr. Unnikrishna Pillai, CPOs Mr. Mohammad Shefiq, Mr. Arun Bhaskar, Mr. Harikrishnan, and Mr. Mohammad Shafi were also present. Mr. K. K., Arun Kumar, and CPO Mr. Arun were also part of the probe team. The accused, who was produced in court, was remanded and lodged in the Alappuzha district jail.
