Siliguri: On 06/06/21 afternoon, a 20-year-old female had submitted a written complaint against some individuals for deception and forcible detention as a sex worker.
According to the complainant, she is from Dumni Tea Garden in Assam’s Mashalpur region. She said her neighbor, a woman named Dipika Das, had brought her to Siliguri on the pretext of providing her work in a beauty parlor. Accordingly, the victim accompanied Das, and upon arriving in Siliguri, the latter handed her over to a man named Okil Mahato and his wife Nilam Mahato.
But soon afterward, the Mahato couple and their cronies from the Khalpara area forced the victim into sexual acts with several unknown persons for monetary gain. When the victim protested against this, the accused and their family members threatened her with dire consequences. Taking note of the complaint, the police had filed a case.
During the investigation on 07/06/21, three persons namely Munni Mahato wife of Okil Mahato, Ganga Mahato the brother of Okil, Pramod Mahato the son of Okil Mahato, and Yunus Seikh, a pimp were arrested, while the main accused Okil Mahato had managed to flee away.
He is also wanted in two other cases of Immoral Trafficking at Siliguri and Bagdogra Police Stations. The police had launched a massive manhunt to arrest the accused Okil Mahato.
Finally, on 26/06/21 evening, a joint team from the Siliguri police station and SOG (SPC) arrested the main accused, Pradip Mahato alias Okil Mahato (45 yrs), S/o Baijnath Mahato of Santoshinagar, Siliguri, District, Darjeeling, from his hideout at Khoribari near the Indo- Nepal border.
The accused person will be forwarded to the Ld Court with a petition for police remand of the accused.
