Siliguri: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police have achieved another commendable feat in their continuous efforts at bringing lawbreakers to book. Yet again, a scheming fraudster, impersonator, and criminal are safely behind bars.
A Siliguri-based businessman had lodged a written complaint at the Bhakti Nagar police station on 28.06.21 stating that about a year ago, a man had walked into his shop and introduced himself as K. K. Tripathi, Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Special Auction Officer based in Kishanganj, Bihar. He began befriending the businessman and frequenting his shop. In one such visit, the person said he was in possession of 84 cars and 5,000 tonnes of wheat, and that he was looking for interested buyers.
K. Tripathi, as he called himself, succeeded in convincing the complainant in participating in the apparent auction, who, along with two of his businessman friends, gave the person Rs. 91 lakh. They readily gave the amount as the person furnished official papers and government seals, treasury challans, and money receipts. He also used to commute in-vehicle bearing the Indian government’s insignia.
Soon afterward, however, the complainant started becoming suspicious of the person’s real intentions, and when he conducted some background checks, discovered that the man was actually a lawyer named Samir Dubey who practiced in Kishanganj Court.
The Detective Department started investigating the matter and a team was dispatched to Kishanganj on Wednesday (07.07.21) disguised as prospective buyers. The officers soon revealed their true identity and conducted a raid, following which they promptly arrested the principal accused and another man who was acting as his personal assistant. It was soon found out that the so-called official documents being showcased were all forged.
Both the arrested accused persons were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Kishanganj who was pleased to allow transit remand of both the accused persons.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate has allowed a three-day transit remand of the two accused, for producing them before the Ld Court at Siliguri in connection with the case registered against them at Bhakti Nagar Police Station.
The accused have been identified as Samir Dubey (47), S/o Gayanand Dubey of Ruidhasha Hanuman Nagar, Kishanganj district, Bihar; and Fayaque Alom (47), S/o Late Fajiruddin of Titia village, Uttar Dinajpur district, West Bengal.
The police are undertaking further follow-up action in this case.
