Chennai: Commissioner of Police Mr. Shankar Jiwal, IPS, has ordered to take stringent action on Gutkha, Mava, and tobacco sellers through the special action of Drive against Banned Tobacco Products (DABToP) in Chennai City.
Following this, on 28.08.2021, on a tip-off, a team led by the Inspector of Police, K-10 Koyambedu Police Station conducted surveillance near Poonamallee Highroad, Nerkundram, and found some persons were loading parcels into a Tata Ace lorry from an Omnibus with Karnataka registration number. The team searched the parcels and found them possessing Gutkha tobacco products and arrested Basuruddin (M/42) of Thiruvanmiyur, Franklin (M/30) of Padi, Settu (M/52 ) of Krishnagiri District, Irudhayaraj (M/62) of Eesa Pallavaram, and Rajesh Kumar (M/36) of Padi.
238 kgs of Gutkha tobacco products one OmniBus and one Tata Ace load vehicle were recovered from them. Legal action was pursued against them.
