Rachakonda: On 13-09-2016 at 5 pm Yadagirigutta Police received a complaint wherein the complainant stated that his younger daughter now deceased aged 19 years, studying B.Com and maintaining a shop along with her father in Yadaginigutta. The accused Cheruku Harikanth who used to work in a Wine Shop which is adjacent to the complainant’s shop. The accused Harikanth used to tease the deceased saying that he is in love with her and he would marry her. On coming to know about the harassment of the accused, the complainant and his relatives reprimanded him on several occasions to mend his attitude and not to harass the deceased. But, the accused has not changed his mindset and continued his harassment towards the deceased under the guise of Love and Marriage and the deceased believed the accused that he is going to marry her. Meanwhile, the accused Harikanth married another girl who is staying back side of their house at Yadagirigutta without the knowledge of the deceased. On coming to know about the marriage of the accused, the deceased questioned him as to why he married another woman instead of her. On 13.06.2016 at morning hours the deceased met the accused near a Hotel and asked the accused as to why he cheated her. Upon which the accused abetted her to commit suicide. On that, she went to her house and drenched her body with kerosene, and set herself ablaze. On hearing her cries neighbors and the complainant rushed and shifted the deceased to Area Hospital, Bhongir where the deceased informed the reasons behind her suicide attempt. On the same day on 13-09-2016 at about 1:15 pm, the deceased succumbed to burn injuries.
Basing on the complaint a case was registered at Yadagirigutta Police Station, during the course of the investigation, the IO CIP. Mr. S. Rajashekar Reddy, Now Alwal Traffic Police Station collected evidence, arrested the accused, and remanded him to judicial custody. On completion of the investigation, the 10 filed a charge sheet. During the trial on 12.10.2021, the Hon’ble Addi Sessions Court judge Mrs. V. Rajani at Bhongiri convicted the accused Cherku Harikanth to undergo 3 years Rigorous Imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.1,000/-.

Janaki Reddy, ACP Yadadri Mr. K.Narsimha Reddy and DCP Bhongir Mr. K.Narayana Reddy, IPS, for their efforts in getting Life Imprisonment conviction to the accused and announced rewards to them.
