Rajendran who had been serving as Chennai Commissioner of Police was promoted as Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, DGP, and (Intelligence) today and given full additional charge as DGP. Mr. Ashok Kumar who had been working as DGP , opted for voluntary retirement and was relieved of his responsibilities late on 6 September. About The New DGP Mr. Rajendran, the New Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, is a 1984 batch IPS officer. He was posted as Commissioner of Police, CoP, in October 2015. The Election Commission shifted him out to the Prison Department after six months. But after the elections, he was posted back as the Commissioner. Officer T K Rajendran had served in various capacities, including Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) and Inspector-General of Police (South Zone). Chief Secretary P. Rama Mohana Rao in an order issued today said Mr. Ashok Kumar was “permitted to voluntarily retire from service” with effect from the afternoon of September 6, Tuesday.
