Chennai: Madras High Court Judge PN Prakash and Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Mr. Shankar Jiwal IPS launched the ‘Paravai’ program, an NGO called “Prism” joined hands with police officials for the program.
Through this paravai ‘program, first-time offenders between the ages of 18 and 24, especially those identified as being addicted to drugs or alcohol, receive counseling, legal assistance and skills training.
Together with the Department of Prisons and the Department of Social Welfare, Greater Chennai Police on Monday launched the ‘Paravai’ (Personal Attitude Reformation Assistance Venture Affirming Identity), program aimed at rehabilitating criminals for the first time in the city.
Through this Paravai ‘, counseling is given to young people between the ages of 18 and 24, especially those who are found to be addicted to drugs or alcohol. Counseling will also be given to their family members. In addition, legal aid is provided to the youth as well as training to hone their skills. The project is aimed at helping young people find employment so that they can lead better lives in the community, police officials said.
