Hyderabad: Hyderabad police on Wednesday arrested Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan University (SRKU) Vice-Chancellor (V-C) and former university Vice-Chancellor in connection with a fake education certificate scam.
Earlier, in February, the city police registered four cases against some academic advisers and SRK University ownership for illegally providing educational certificates in exchange for money. Cases have been registered at Malakpet, Asif Nagar, Musheerabad and Chadarghat police stations in Hyderabad and a special investigation team has been set up.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes and City) Mr. A R Srinivas told media on Wednesday that SRK University Vice Chancellor Dr. M Prashant Pillai and former University Vice Chancellor Dr. SS Kushwaha had been arrested in connection with the case. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes & CIT) Mr. AR Srinivas said, “We have found that the SRK University management has extorted huge sums of money from students by giving fake degree certificates for MBA, BSc, BCom and other BTech and BE courses.”
The investigation revealed that the SRKU ownership has so far issued a total of 101 fake educational certificates. Of these, 44 certificates have been seized so far, 13 of which are B.Tech and BE certificates, while the rest have MBA, BSc and other degrees, the additional CP said.
