Greater Chennai: The Greater Chennai Police has been taking various measures to enforce the traffic rules in Greater Chennai City to reduce accidents. In this regard in order to create deterrence among violators and improve the level of compliance of traffic rules the Greater Chennai Police have been conducted various awareness campaigns and vigorous enforcement drive by booking Motor vehicle cases against the motorists and pillion riders found riding without wearing helmet.
On analysis of two wheeler accident cases from the period of 1.1.2022 to 15.5.2022 reveals that 98 victims have lost their lives and 841 victims have sustained injuries. Out of which, 80 Motor cycle riders and 18 Pillion riders lost their lives and 714 Motorcycle riders and 127 pillion riders were injured riding without wearing helmet.
Hence in order to control and reduce accidents, Greater Chennai Police have been planned to conduct special drive from 23.5.2022, Monday to ensure that all two wheeler riders and pillion riders comply with the helmet rule. Strict action will be taken against the riders and pillion riders for not wearing helmets as per Motor Vehicle Act.
All motorists are requested to obey the traffic rules and extend their full co-operation to Greater Chennai Police in the mission to save precious human lives and achieve an accident free city.
