CHENNAI: On November 26 jail authorities seized 10 mobile phones in Puzhal prison when they made a surprise check. The raid was held after a tiff. While some phones were confiscated from inmates rest were found buried inside the prison premises. Police told Policenewsplus that raids were conducted in the 5th block of the jail where four phones were found. The phones were used to contact associates of some criminals and extort money, Police said. Gangs which were involved in the Kannaginagar murder case were among those who had managed to smuggle in the phones. Police are checking the details of the calls made from the phones. They are investigating if any jail official was involved in smuggling the phones in to the jail. A case has been filed.]]>
