CHENNAI: Chennai Police plans to increase level of security to be provided across the city with the local police, armed reserve police forces, traffic police and patrolling teams stationing themselves at strategic locations to tackle untoward incidents even as demonstrations are planned by various political parties against nationwide demonetization. In Chennai more than 8000 policemen will be on duty for the day, a senior police official said. Policemen will be deployed at bus stops, railway stations, shopping complexes and malls, he said. Heavy Police will guard vital installations in the city. Any group that protests or demonstrates without proper permission will be arrested. Police added, “Prior permission has been granted to those who want to agitate before government offices and others, but those who gather and protest without any permission will be arrested”. Police teams under the orders of Additional Commissioners, Joint Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners will be keeping vigil from morning till evening to a check on demonstrations. ]]>
