Chennai: Violence erupted at the The Annual General Body meeting of the South Indian Film Artists Association (Nadigar Sangam) held on November 27 following which 21 persons were arrested by the Police. Just as the meeting was about to start violence erupted outside the venue when around 30 persons tried to barge into the venue. The men, owing allegiance to the previous set of office-bearers of the Sangam were stopped by the newly elected members. Following this a scuffle broke out. In the commotion, an unidentified person threw a stone at actor Karunas’ vehicle that was parked outside the venue, damaging its windshield. Police arrested 21 persons in connection with the violence. Around 200 policemen were deployed at the venue. Deputy Commissioner of Police, T.nagar Mr. Saravanan oversaw the security. A resolution was passed in which previous office bearers Sarath Kumar and Radha Ravi were dismissed from the Sangam. Treasurer of the actors body NS Karthi said, “The Sangam is currently working on setting things right as there was a lot of mismanagement by the previous office-bearers.” Membership of the association, pension scheme and other welfare measures for senior drama and theatre artistes were discussed at the meeting, he said.]]>
