Chittoor: The Chittoor District Police has been conducting special activities and conferences to prevent road accidents on a regular basis so that people do not lose their lives in road accidents.
Chittoor district police are working hard to save the lives of the people by reducing the number of road accidents by conducting special drives along with mobilizing the people with the latest policies under the slogan ‘One life is enough for road safety’.
As part of the operation, the Chittoor sub-divisional police conducted a special drive on Saturday and last week for the last two days as part of road safety. Those caught in this special drive, especially those caught drunk and driving, were fined as well as jailed.
Drunk driving is punishable by a fine of between Rs.1,000 and Rs.2,000 and up to three days in jail. On this occasion, the DSP said that this special drive which was conducted for two days last week registered 100 drunk and drive cases and 20 of them were sentenced to 3 days imprisonment and fined. A fine of Rs 1,000 and a fine of Rs 2,000 were imposed on 40 persons, said Mrs. Parimala Devi, First Class Magistrate, Chittoor. Therefore, the DSP said that it is the responsibility of the people to realize this and not to drive under the influence of alcohol.
