<![CDATA[A Whatsapp message sent from Ukraine by an engineering student hailing from Avaniapuram was the cause for the massive agitation that took place on Tuesday night at Alagarkoil Road at Tamukkam in Madurai Police said. Several hundreds of students, professionals, youngsters, took part in the protest. The protest was organized through a social media message that threw traffic out of gear for nearly one week. The protesters occupied both lanes of the road for nearly 500 metres. They raised slogans, playing martial arts, cooking and danced. The protesters also attracted thousands of city residents every day, particularly in the evenings, Police said. Surprisingly the message in the social media was not sent by anyone sitting in the Temple city, but far away in Ukraine, the Police said. When the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Mr. A.G. Babu traced and questioned him the student had merely said that, ‘I did it just like that”, quoting the student the DC said. ]]>
