Siliguri: On the fateful day of 4th May 2016, at around 2 pm, one Shibu Das, a van puller was loading bamboos in his van outside his house in Telipara, Ghoghomali, Ashighar. At that time, one Bibhas alias Bikash Mandal, in a drunken state, happened to pass that place. One bamboo accidentally struck the feet of Bikash and he picked up a quarrel with poor Shibu. Hearing this, Upen Das who is the father of Shibu Das rushed outside, pacified Bikash and sent him home. However, notorious Bikash came back with a pointed iron rod. He mercilessly stabbed the old Upen Das in his chest. As a result, poor Upen died on the way to the hospital.
Immediately, an FIR was registered at Bhaktinagar Police Station and endorsed to SI Mr. Phup Rinchey Bhutia for investigation. Mr. Phup Rinchey arrested the accused and conducted a meticulous, thorough and fast investigation. In only 27 days, he submitted a charge sheet on 31st May 2016.
Ld District & Sessions Judge Jalpiguri ordered a trial into the matter and after a judicious process of trial, finally on 28th June 2022 the Ld Court accepted the contentions and evidences brought forth by SI Bhutia and sentenced the accused Bibhas alias Bikash Mandal to rigorous imprisonment for life and a fine of Rs.5000/-.
Finally, the family of deceased Upen Das attained justice with the sincere hard work of SI Mr. Phup Rinchey Bhutia.
Today, SI Mr.Phup Rinchey Bhutia, who is currently posted at Ambari, Falakata OP was recognized for this good work with a cash reward, a GS Mark and an appreciation letter given by Mr. Gaurav Sharma IPS, CP Siliguri.
