Trichy: Municipal police are engaged in various activities to stop the sale of ganja throughout Trichy city. In this situation yesterday morning, the police, led by Cantonment Police Inspector Mr. Siva Kumar, arrested 2 people who were standing in Trichy Railway Junction area and investigated them. During the investigation they gave contradictory answers. A bag they were carrying was searched and found to contain 2½ kg of ganja. The police seized them and took them to the Cantonment Police Station for questioning.
On investigation it was revealed that the ganja was meant for the sale to the students, it was further revealed that they were Mohammad Azharuddin (32) from Odiyampatti area of KK Nagar and Gopal (40) from Malapatti area near Trichy. 5½ kg of ganja was seized during a raid at their house. Further investigation revealed that they went to Andhra state and bought and smuggled ganja and sold it to school and college students across Trichy city. Subsequently, the police arrested Mohammad Azharuddin and Gopal and lodged them in Trichy Central Jail.
