CHENNAI: The welfare fund given to police personnel in the form of cheques to have made it difficult for the personnel to exchange it to cash at the banks. The police personnel have received cheques instead of cash. Many personnel who are on medical leave would also get their cheques in due course, police said. But the problem is that it was difficult for them to exchange their cheques in to cash or deposit the cheques due to spelling errors. Several Policemen had come from different parts of the city during duty hours to collect the cheques and they would have to come again to collect them after necessary corrections. “It is difficult to exchange these cheques as it will take a toll on duty hours. So we need to deposit the cheques and if the name does not correspond with the spelling in our account, the bank officials will reject them”, a policemen said. Policemen who received the cheques will have come back again to the Commissioner’s office to get the amount. The personnel will get a compensation of Rs 50,000 if they were injured while on duty, a police officer said. ]]>
