MADURAI: The Police must immediately arrest the miscreants who damaged the temple idols said villagers demanding to act on their complaint as the temple had been damaged twice at Maikudi village panchayat, Tirumangalam taluk in Madurai district. People noticed the amman idol in the Odai Karuppanasamy temple broken at the first instance and the top portion missing on Mattu Pongal day. As the temple was located on the outskirts, the act of vandalism was noticed only little later by the locals. The villagers claimed in spite of filing a Police complaint at the Tirumangalam Police station no action was taken. The second time again the Odai Karuppanasamy idol was damaged on Friday which left the whole village in a state of shock and anger. One hand of the idol was broken and it was taken away by the miscreants. Villagers who had gone to pray noticed it and alerted the villagers. Villagers gathered at the temple and decided to stage a protest until the accused were arrested. A villager said “Some miscreants, who are not happy with the peaceful coexistence in the village, should have done this.” “The idols were broken with the intention of disturbing the communal harmony and creating tension. The Police visited the place and registered after a complaint was filed.  ]]>
