Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested two foreign accused persons from Delhi namely Allote Peter alias Chibuza (Ghana), and Romance Joshua (Nigeria) who were involved in Instagram friendship.
Basing on the complaint filed by women victim from Begumpet a case in Cr No. 844/2022 was registered. Oscar Leone introduced himself as a doctor from USA and after few days the victim they chatted on whatsapp. They later developed friendship and the accused told her that he was sending a parcel in which gold Jewelry, electronic gadgets and some cash was enclosed. Later another person called the victim introducing himself as an official from customs department of Delhi International Airport demanding her to pay the customs tax for the gifts she has received from Oscar Leon. Totally an amount of Rs.2.2 lakhs were collected from the victim for various charges.
During the course of the investigation, the Cyber Crime police found the accused to be in Delhi and arrested them. On interrogation they revealed that they visited Delhi on student VISA, created fake profiles over Instagram and Facebook using the photos of white people and sent follow/friend requests to women. Later they chat with mobile numbers starting with in +1 and +44 numbers and made the victims believe that they are chatting with foreigners.
Later, they made friendship with the victim women after gaining confidence they inform the victims that they are sending a gift as a token of their friendship. They send photos of gold Jewelry, cellphones, laptops, cash, etc. Later their associates call the victims and introduce themselves as officials from customs department of International Airport, Delhi collect money from the victims in the name of customs duty, Income Tax, RBI charges, conversion Charges, etc.
Therefore care must be taken in accepting friend/follow requests from unknown people over facebook/ Instagram. Please do not entertain telephone calls impersonating officials from customs department.
This case was cracked under the supervision of Mr. KVM Prasad ACP, Inspector Mr.Venkata Rami Reddy SI Keetha Madhusudhana Rao, Constables Mr. Satish, Mr. Bhaskar, Mr. Murali Krishna and Mr. Kranthi Kumar.
