BENGALURU: A Police constable was attacked by three men who were drunk after he had objected to the trio urinating on the compound wall of a temple in Cottonpet, west Bengaluru on Friday night. Police said, Purushottam Rao constable who is on a special duty attached to the City Police and serving as a gunman to an MLC, reprimanded the trio after he found them urinating in a temple compound near Vinayaka theatre on Mysuru Road around 11pm. Purushottam Rao who lives in the Armed Reserve Police quarters on Friday night, had gone walking to a medical store when he saw three men urinating on a temple compound. When Purushottam objected the angry youths picked up a quarrel with him, when Purushottam warned them of Police action the three pounced on him and attacked him with a stone, Police said. “Purushottam was hit on the face with a stone,” Police said. Passers-by and shop owners rushed to the spot on hearing the commotion. The three fled the scene after crowds gathered there, Police said. The Police was alerted and a Hoysala vehicle rushed to the constable’s help. Police said, “Purushottam was shifted to Victoria Hospital where he is recovering”. Police could not locate Purushotham’s service revolver and they thought that the youths fled with the gun, a .303. “Purushotham was not in a condition to speak as he was attacked on his face and could make only a statement on Saturday evening that the missing rifle is indeed at his home”, Police said.
